Functional Blood Work / Functional Specialty Labs

Functional blood work panels range from $195-$275 and have become an integral part of working with clients as it is often much more economical and can provide loads of helpful information about how the body is functioning. Specific patterns, ranges, and symptoms can reveal imbalances in the body that conventional medicine may not pick up on due to the wide array of “normal” ranges for blood work. You will simply order the lab work through me, go to your nearest LabCorp, and we will discuss the results once received.

Functional specialty labs range from $99-$499 each depending on the lab and include stool, urine, blood spot, and hair samples. Click here for a blog post I wrote describing each lab. Functional specialty labs can be incredibly beneficial when we need to dig deeper and gather more specific information.

There is no obligation to run any labs if you prefer not to as I can still create a plan just for you based on your health intake, unique story, symptoms, or previous lab results. That being said, the value of Functional Medicine lab testing is unmatched. Completing these tests is the easiest, most accurate way to identify the underlying root cause imbalances that cause chronic symptoms. We are able to peel back the curtain on the systems within your body and pinpoint the areas that need attention. They are truly the bread and butter of Integrative Health.

Many clients are thrown off by the cost of Functional Medicine lab testing and understandably so. I always welcome my clients to ask their Primary Care Physicians to try and order certain tests for insurance coverage purposes though most will find that these tests are often not offered at their conventional doctor’s office. Should you decide to order labs through me, you can expect the labs to arrive on your doorstep to be completed in the privacy of your own home and then easily mailed back to the lab.

Here is the list of labs I am able to order and interpret for my clients:

  • Blood Work Panels (Overall Picture of the Body, Underlying Chronic Infections/Pathogens)

  • IgG Food Sensitivities Test + Candida (Assesses Delayed Food Allergies and Candida)

  • Thyroid, Adrenal, Hormone Lab (Stress Evaluation)

  • Stool Analysis (Assesses Healthy & Pathogenic Bacteria, Parasites, & Yeast)

  • Organic Acids Test (Provides Gut Profile, Vitamin & Mineral levels, and Neurotransmitter Levels)

  • Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (Detects Mineral Levels and Heavy Metals)

  • Omega-3 Lab (Gauges Inflammation and Omega Levels in the Body)

Supplements

Another core aspect of Integrative Health is the use of supplements which we will undoubtedly need while working together. Many doubt the efficacy and necessity of supplements and I, quite frankly, used to be one of them. It wasn’t until I learned the reasoning behind the use of supplements and began taking them for my specific needs that I then understood their vital role in my own health. The most compelling arguments for the incorporation of supplements are:

  • Addressing underlying toxins, infections, and pathogens within the body

  • Filling a nutritional gap from poor eating habits

  •  Nutrient absorption within our bodies declines with age

  • Exercise and everyday stress increases nutrient needs

  • The soil that our grocery store produce grows in has been radically depleted of nutrients over the last century so our produce is thus less nutritious

  • Preventing illness and health decline

There is also no obligation to purchase supplements, but I have found it to be incredibly difficult to heal by food alone (initially) because most people come in with weakened digestive and absorptive capacity as well as deficient immune systems.
